Mill Cottage is hidden in deepest Devon and is not a very easy place to find.

The maps below are actually much higher resolution than shown on the screen so for best results, they should be downloaded and viewed with your favourite picture viewer. To save the maps, right-click the image and choose "Save Picture As...". Choose a suitable location such as your desktop.

Below the first map are some directions from the M5 Motorway. The directions shown are, where possible, using main roads. If you are feeling adventurous, you may find shorter routes, but, in our experience, these usually take longer in the end. At the end of the directions is a local map of the area to help you find your way from the centre of Beaford.

From junction 27 of the southbound M5

-

At the motorway junction roundabout, take the third turning, signposted Tiverton and Barnstaple.

-

Stay on the A361 for about 22 miles. This is the North Devon Link Road and is a dual-carriageway for most of the way.

-

Towards the end of the 22 miles, Keep an eye out for a green-coloured Four-Wheel-Drive garage on the right hand side of the road. Shortly after this garage you will come to a small roundabout. You need to take the first exit here onto the B3227 towards a village called Bish Mill.

-

Stay on this road, through Bish Mill, heading towards a small town called South Molton.

-

When you arrive at South Molton, drive through the town until you come to a peculiar "H" shaped section with a big long island in the road. You need to take a dog-leg, turning right and then immediately left into Broad Street. There are no markings in the road and to start with it can look like you are driving on the wrong side of the road, but you are not.

-

After 50 or 60 yards, you will come to a cross-roads. Turn left here following the B3227 towards Torrington.

-

Carry on the B3227 for about 6 miles. You will eventually come to a junction immediately after a bridge crossing the River Exe. You will see a pub in front of you called The Rising Sun.

-

At the pub, turn right, follow the A377 for abut 200 yards, and then turn left back on to the B3227.

-

Follow the B3227 until you arrive at a village called Atherington. Carry on straight over the peculiar junction but keep an eye out for a tea room on your left. At the tea room, turn left onto the B3217. If you find yourself driving back on yourself, you have taken the road just before the B3217 and you will need to turn round.

-

Follow the B3217, which is a fairly windy road, for about 5 or 6 or miles until you arrive at a staggered cross-roads with the B3220. This is a fairly major junction with a garage on your left and a depot yard on your right. At this junction you should turn right onto the B3220 towards Beaford.

-

Carry on down the B3220 for about 2.5 miles until you arrive at Beaford. Drive slowly through the village and keep an eye out for a school on the left and a sign for Beaford Arts. Turn left at this junction.

-

Drive down this road, past a school on the left until you come to a right-hand bend in the road and a Beaford Arts sign straight ahead of you. Don't follow the road round to the right, but carry straight down the minor road.

-

Drive carefully down the steep hill for several hundred yards until you see a sign on the corner that warns of possible floods. At this point, Mill Cottage is the first turning on the left. The entrance is a little bit hidden, so drive slowly.

-

You're there! Just drive on in.
